
Tsang Man-tung 曾文通
Tsang Man-tung is an interdisciplinary artist active in the fields of theatre, visual arts, music, and arts education. He graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and was awarded the Asian Cultural Council fellowship in 2009, which allowed him to visit the Yale School of Drama as a special research fellow in 2010. With over twenty years of experience, he is a renowned scenographer who has received numerous local and international awards in scenography. These accolades include the Award for Best Artist (Theatre) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2008 and the 1st Prize for Performance Design at World Stage Design 2025 for his work on Cankramati (Into the Microcosm).
Renowned for his conceptual and minimalist style, Tsang Man-tung has created seven meditative theatre works since 2017, including The Heart Sutra (2017), Vipassana - Silent Walk (2017), Silence in the Woods (2019), The Light of Metempsychosis (2021), Ashtanga (2023), Sonic Tranquility (2024), and Cankramati (2024 & 2025). He also presented a solo exhibition in scenography titled DisjunctiveCoding Exhibition in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong City Hall in 2002. In 2022, he participated in Art X Mindfulness: Listening to the Boundless Universe through Art and curated the Lokadhātu mindfulness installation exhibition at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Tsang was invited to present his unique workshops, White Paper and ScenoZen, at the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space (PQ) in 2011 and 2015, respectively. In 2007, he published his first book on contemporary stage design in Hong Kong, titled Scenography: Transcend to the Beyond..
Beyond theatre, Tsang is a renowned artist of Himalayan singing bowls. In 2010, he founded Allpamama, focusing on the four core elements of art, music, life, and meditation. He has extensive experience in performing and teaching singing bowls, as well as leading meditative workshops for various organizations and companies. In 2024, he curated 108 Harmonics for the M+ Museum, a series of art and museum experiences centered around singing bowls. Additionally, he released his first singing bowl album, The Seed of Sound: Singing Bowl, in 2018, and published his book about singing bowls, The Bowl of Enlightenment, in 2020.
跨領域當代藝術家,範疇包括劇場、視覺藝術、音樂及藝術教育等。畢業於香港演藝學院,2009年獲亞洲文化協會獎助金,翌年到美國耶魯大學戲劇學院任研究學者。他以簡約設計達致精神上的平靜和諧,以「一念間一場空」的禪意美學介入設計。2008年獲香港藝術發展獎「藝術家年獎(戲劇)」。在世界劇場設計展 (World Stage Design) 更屢獲殊榮,分別在2009年獲佈景設計專業組榮譽獎、2017獲佈景設計專業組銀獎、2025年更憑個人創作及導演的《經行頌缽-微 觀 篇 》,獲表演設計專業組金獎,作品備受國際業界肯定。
自2017年起,他以「靜心觀看」意念創作七部靜觀劇場作品,包括《心寂無聲》(2017)、《 觀 自 在 》之《 山 海 行 深 》(2017)、 《入靜山林》(2019)、《 黑 天 幻 日 》 (2021)、《 八 步 瑜 伽 》(2023)、 《和聲山場》(2024)、《 經 行 頌 缽 》微 觀 篇 (2024)及宇宙篇(2025)。個人作品展包括《舞台空間消解構成》舞台設計展覽及《三千大千》靜觀藝術裝置展。
他策劃及帶領的現代心靈工作坊《一紙如鏡》及《一境四心》分別在2011至2015年應布拉格劇場設計四年展邀請到布拉格舉行。
2010年成立Allpamama,主張藝術、生活、音樂和靜心的平衡。2022啓動「Sounditation靜音模式」,推動以聲音作為靜心的方法。他有豐富的頌缽演奏及教學經驗,把頌缽結合不同的領域,讓這聲音普及化及讓人得到身心平安。2018年推出個人頌缽音樂專輯《聲音原本》,著作包括《舞台空間:一念間一場空》及《聽聞頌缽:一心敲缽 一心諦聽》。
